NOVA SCOTIA BICYCLE CAMPING TOUR
with inn to inn options

An
eight day cycling trip in southern Nova Scotia, including the southern
halves of the
Lighthouse Route and the
Evangeline Trail,
Kejimkujik
National Park , and including short rides in Acadia National Park
in Bar Harbor Maine . This is a loop ride, and offers different campgrounds
or inns each night. The ride is designed distance riders, with about
60 miles covered each day. While the choice of accommodations is often
limited, the campgrounds and inns chosen here are comfortable and pleasant.

description DAY ONE: ACADIA NATIONAL
PARK , MAINE The Nova Scotia ride originates and ends in Bar
Harbor, Maine in
Acadia
National park. Distances: New York City (488 miles) or Boston (280
miles) . Hopefully you will have time to enjoy the 25 mile
"Park Loop" (approximately
34 miles for campgrounds) and a ride up Cadillac Mountain.

ADVISORY: Ferry service between Bar Harbor
ME and Yarmouth NS ended in 2009.
The Canadian government is
exploring options, and overnight ferry service between Boston and
Halifax may resume in the summer of 2010.
DAY
TWO: YARMOUTH TO BARRINGTON We're up early, and at 8 am we cross
over to Nova Scotia on the Cat Ferry, leaving all our vehicles at the
Ferry parking lot. Arriving in Yarmouth at noon , we begin riding east
and visit the Cape Lighthouse on
Cape Sable Island , or the
Seal Island Lighthouse museum near Barrington . Today's ride is
58 miles. If you decide to stay overnight in Yarmouth in order to start
the ride to Barrington the next day, take the 14 mile round trip spin
from Yarmouth to the Yarmouth Lighthouse on Cape Forchu.

Rd. from Islands Provincial Park Km 1 RT Rt. 3 to Shelburne.

Day 4 mapDAY FIVE: SEASIDE ADJUNCT
TO KEJIMKUJIK NATIONAL PARK . Distance: 50 miles. . You may wish
to take time for canoeing and hiking as well in this Canadian national
treasure.

Day 5 mapDAY SIX KEJIMKUJIK TO ANNAPOLIS
ROYAL , (If we choose to take a rest day here, Ride along Digby
Neck or explore Annapolis Royal . Whale-watching cruises are available.
Visit the Tidal Power Plant near Annapolis Royal , and the
Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens
is a must-see, as well as the Port Royal National Historic Site. Distance:

ROYAL TO CHURCH POINT , along the Acadian coast . This section
from Danby to Yarmouth , connecting 14 small Acadian villages with austere
frame houses, and with Acadian culture everywhere, is often referred
to "
The
longest main street in the world". See the world's tallest wooden
church in Pointe de l'eglise. . 90 km (55 miles)

Day7 mapDAY EIGHT: CHURCH POINT TO
YARMOUTH . 62 km (39 Miles) At 1:00 we take the Cat back, arriving
in Bar Harbor at 4 pm. Follow Evangeline Trail (Route 1) the entire
distance.
