la Route Verte
La
Route Verte (the Green Route) is a 4000 km system
of cycling paths and bicycle lanes connecting cities
and towns in Quebec. We've ridden on La Route Verte
extensively in our annual summer Canadian cycling
trips. There are currently 8 numbered routes connecting
the following areas. Links below provide PDF maps
of La Route Verte through the various regions of

Abitibi: The Abitibi River
in northeastern Ontario, Canada, which flows northwest
from Lake Abitibi , eventually emptying into James
Bay. Abitibi-Témiscamingue is an adjacent region
in western Quebec along the Ontario border.

Cantons Est (the Eastern Townships).
This tourism region in south-eastern Quebec is just
north of Vermont along the United States border
and includes Sherbrooke, Granby, Magog, Cowansville,
Drummondville, Victoriaville, and Thetford Mines,
as well as the camping and ski areas at Mount Orford,
Ski Bromont, Mount Sutton, and Owl's Head. Several
names sections of La Route Verte converge in the
Eastern Townships. We rode through this area on
our
bicycle camping tour from Vermont to Quebec City.

Charlevoix: The Charlevoix
region in on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence
River east of Quebec City, and was designated a
World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1989. A meteorite
struck the center of this area about 350 million
years ago creating the forty-mile wide Charlevoix
crater. that can be detected fin satellite photos
from Baie-Saint-Paul to La Malbaie.

Chaudière - Appalaches: Named
for the Chaudière River and the Appalachian Mountains,
this region includes Lévis, Saint-Georges, Thetford
Mines, Sainte-Marie and Montmagny. It lies on the
southern side of the St. Lawrence across from Quebec
City.

Gaspe Peninsula: This large
peninsula in far eastern Quebec is a popular tourism
region, with the International Appalachian Trail
crossing through the mountains. The Gaspé National
Park is at the northeastern tip.

Gatineau: This area just
north of Ottawa is in the Outaouais region is at
the intersection of the Ottawa and Gatineau Rivers
and includes Cantley, Chelsea, La Peche, Gracefield
Maniwaki and the city Gatineau.

Lanaudiere The section of Quebec
between the Saint Lawrence River and the Laurentian
Mountains west of Montreal. Lanaudière hosts the
Rouge-Matawin and Mastigouche wildlife refuges and
extends north to include a section of the Mont Tremblant
park.

Laurentides: A region in Quebec's
Laurentian Mountains northwest of Montreal, the
Laurentides are a popular summer tourist and ski
destination and includes St-Sauveur and the popular
Mont Tremblant ski resort. Quebec's La Petite Train
du Nord extends through this area and is the longest
bicycle path in North America. View our

Madeleine: a tiny group of
islands at the eastern extreme of Quebec.
Manicouagan: Located the Côte-Nord
region, Manicougan is along the shore of the Saint
Lawrence River and along the Manicouagan River,
east of Quebec City. It is home to the
Indian reserve of
Pessamit. Interactive

Mauricie: La Mauricie National
Park is a popular tourist destination. Trois-Rivières
and Shawinigan are two of the largest cities in
this area. The Saint-Maurice river runs north-south
through the region.

Monteregie: Located in southwest
Québec north of New York State, west of the Richelieu
River and south of the Saint Lawrence River,
Monteregie includes Boucherville, Brossard, Granby,
Longueuil, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu,
Saint-Hyacinthe, Sorel-Tracy, and Vaudreuil-Dorion,
as well as the south shore of Montréal. Montérégie
is named for the Monteregian Hills and is known
for its vineyards, orchards and farms.

Laval: A large city and island
immediately north of Montreal, Laval La Route Verte
to areas in northwest Quebec.

Montreal: The city has an intricate
system of bicycle paths and cycling lanes. La Route
Verte #1 goes through the center of the city.
Central Quebec: South of the
Saint Lawrence between Trois-Rivieres and the Eastern
Townships. We rode through this area on our
bicycle camping tour from Vermont to Quebec City.

Quebec city - Levis Several
