Marshall Walter “Major” Taylor known as “Major Taylor won the world 1 mile track cycling championship in 1899, and was the first African Amerian to become a world champion in athletic competitions. Worcester, Massachusett named a central thoroughfare the Major Taylor Boulevard in his memory. The Seven Hills Wheelmen annually hod a Major Taylor Century ride.
