New England Classic 150 & 550
The New England Classic is a multi-day fundraising event presented by the nonprofit New England Classic Charity Bike Tour organization to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The New England Classic, or NEC, offers two-day and seven-day options both starting Saturday, July 15, in Bedford, Mass., at Middlesex Community College. The 150-mile NEC 150 and 550-mile NEC 550 travel the same route for the first two days. Indoor, air-conditioned accommodations and breakfast and lunch are included. All New England Classic riders will receive a customized New England Classic cycling jersey.
On Day 1, all NEC riders travel the back roads of the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts into southern New Hampshire and along the seacoast with a destination of Durham, N.H. The Day 2 route takes riders to coastal Maine past beaches, rocky coves and quaint villages. Day 2 ends with dinner and a celebration, then two-day riders board chartered buses back to Bedford while their bicycles are transported there safely.
On Day 3, NEC 550 riders leave coastal Maine, heading west into the White Mountain region, where the challenge rolls north through Conway and on to the Attitash ski area in Bartlett, N.H. The journey continues on Day 4 with a climb up Crawford Notch on the way to Bethlehem and Littleton, N.H., before heading south to Lebanon, N.H. On Day 4 riders have the option of taking a rest day and being transported to our destination in Lebanon, N.H.
After a night in Lebanon, on Day 5 riders pedal into Vermont and their next destination of Killington, Vt. On Day 6 the trek continues through Vermont on and then back into the Monadnock region of New Hampshire with an overnight in Keene, N.H. The final leg heads to Central Massachusetts, winding its way to the finish at Middlesex Community College in Bedford, Mass., on Friday, July 21.
There is a fundraising minimum of $500 and registration fee of $50 for the two-day NEC 150. The fundraising minimum for the seven-day, NEC 550 is $2,900 with a $100 registration fee.
