Sunderland bicycle ride

Sunderland – Northfield loop

Description from CTBikeRoutes: This is a lovely ride through several towns in the Connecticut River Valley in Massachusetts. The ride is on mostly flat to rolling terrain and features a great snack/lunch stop overlooking the Connecticut River at a Northfield river side park. After this stop the ride route heads north up to Northfield before turning west briefly and then south through Gill to Turners Falls. There is a very scenic cascade waterfall on Falls Rd near the end of the ride.

Start Roadside parking area on Rt. 116 , Deerfield MA just before crossing Connecticut River bridge to Sunderland.

  1. At the start of the ride you go up 47 to Montague. Depending on the time of day, there can be a lot of fast traffic with little shoulder. I would consider an alternate route. Perhaps take river rd, then Old Sunderland Rd into Montague.

At mile 13.4 It’s a nice option to continue on Pine Meadow Rd. instead of turning right onto 63. There is a nice brewery here now called Four Star Farm.

In Turners Falls, you can go straight through town. Or after you go over the bridge, we took the first right onto the bike path that runs along the canal. This is much more scenic.

Overall it was a very nice ride!
